    Excerpt

Miss Bennet! His voice rang in her ears again.

Yes, I am coming! Compelled, she slipped out of her room, neglecting to pull on her robe. With almost military precision, she strode down the hallway and found his room without problem. But when she tried the door, it was locked. She had to detour and enter quietly through the servant’s entrance.

In the dim moonlight, she could see that his shirt gaped open, as sweat dampened his brows and chest. His breathing was agitated, and hers became shallow upon her observation of his muscular physique; after all, as a maiden, she had never beheld such a manly vision.

She prodded his shoulder, waking him from what she thought a nightmare, hoping against hope that he would not question her presence in his room.  When his eyes slowly opened, she braced herself to leave. But he bolted up, clinging to her hand, preventing her departure, and his eyes were fixed on hers in the moonlit room.

“You came!” he murmured, as if disbelieving the vision before him.

Astounded at being held fast by this half-dressed man in his dark chamber, she swallowed with difficulty and replied, as calmly as she could, reminding herself that she was an angel, not a mere woman on Earth. “You asked for me.”

“Yes, I wanted to dance with you.” He nodded his head and continued, “I wanted to share a waltz with you.”

Eyes widening, Elizabeth tried again to back away but he rose smoothly from the bed and slipped his other hand around her waist, swirling her with him into the pattern of the dance. Her heart skipped a beat, and her entire body tingled in response to his closeness. The tips of her breasts brushed his chest, and her thinly clad belly registered the iron length of his bulge, hard and hot. His musky scent flooded her nostrils.

Elizabeth drew in fast deep breaths. When she opened her mouth to protest, he lowered his head and captured her lips in a heated kiss. In the next moment, his limbs abandoned all pretence of the dance and wrapped around her tightly, as if trying to impress his shape into her form, his hips moving rhythmically against her. His tongue thrust into her half-open mouth, tasting her, while his hands slid down to cup her buttocks, drawing her even closer.

Elizabeth had never felt such a mixture of sensations in her body. Blood rioted in her veins. Both her mouth and apex were hot and wet with desire, and she could not suppress the trembling that radiated from her core. She felt as if she were rising from the ground, flying to heaven.

    …tap-tap…

The sound of someone knocking on the door shattered their heated embrace, driving them apart.
